The Precise Word offers editing services across the writing genres: Poetry, Fiction, Creative Non-fiction, and Technical Writing. I have taught classes at the university level in composition, technical writing, and literature. I am a creative writer and have had my own work published in various literary journals, and I have been co-editor and publisher of the literary journal, Heliotrope: A Writer's Summer Solstice, and will be editor and publisher for my new endeavor, Gribble Press. Following are rates based on 2006 Writers' Market, covering editing at a range of levels, and I will offer free estimates on work that is not listed.
Estimate 12-15 double-spaced pages/hour, depending on content. Proofreading is the final pass before submission. It involves looking for small errors in punctuation, word choice, and grammar.
Estimate 8-10 double-spaced pages/hour depending on content. A light copyedit is done toward the end of the writing process. It involves suggesting rewrites to improve clarity, grammar, and word choice.
A heavy copyedit is done after a first or second draft. It involves significant rewriting to improve clarity, grammar, and word choice.
I also do freelance business and technical writing. Obviously, writing would not be used for course work, candidacy papers, or theses and dissertations. It is available for any other venue.
